Diptyque make lovely fragrances – from home to personal – and they have just turned 50. In Paris in 1961, united by a passion for creativity and design, three artisans became friends and partners. They opened a shop at 34 boulevard Saint-Germain to showcase their avant-garde fabric designs and decorative items from their travels. The trio then offered colored candles to match their fabrics, adding perfumed wax and customers fell in love with the inimitable fragrances. In 1963, they introduced the first diptyque scented candle. In 1968, the first line of diptyque fragrances is launched. Today, the three Parisian artists are world-renown purveyors of fragrance and scented candles.

Here is their first candle packaging…

And this is their current look…

Refined over the years, but never losing their premium design essence – the stamp surround remains the same, but with allowance to change what goes inside the oval. They also handle collaborations beautifully as seen below with their special edition candle with artists Kuntzel + Deygas to create a range of scented candles based on the characters “Beauty and the Beast”. Beast representing the vigorous woody violet scent of one of the candles and Beauty the sweet and beautiful floral notes….

Their emblems also translate well to embossing…

And this is the basis of good branding design – a platform that can be expanded upon, adapted to different materials and techniques and stand the test of time. For a brand like Diptyque this ability to be flexible whilst advancing new product lines, yet keep their soul, is what makes them great.
