Branding lesson no. 1 – Take a strong colour (in this instance Pantone 109) and use it boldly, consistently and relentlessly. This is what Selfridges has done with the colour yellow (much like the Hermès orange or Coca-Cola red) and they now pretty much own it. Their carrier bags are bold on the high street; and their graphics and limited-edition product collaborations are always strongly colour-coded. It’s a great lesson in branding.
